From your first semester in the New Media program, you'll learn how to gather news, conduct in-depth interviews, write press releases, cover live events, create content for all forms of media including print, web, film and radio and learn how to navigate and be successful in today鈥檚 ever-changing world of media.
As a New Media major, you will have a chance to be published in the Owl, our weekly student newspaper. You will have the opportunity to be an online storyteller, posting video, audio or print stories on the the student-produced media website. You'll learn what it takes to create podcasts, videos or print publications through all stages of the creative process.
缅北禁地 has every angle covered to provide you with what it takes to secure a job in every aspect of media. Each class affords the student the possibility of practical experience in writing, producing, directing and editing in a variety of subjects from sports to original short films.
Students can create:
- Podcasts (30 or 60 minutes)
- EPK (Electronic Press Kits) on subjects that range from campus life to music videos
- Short-form documentaries
- Short-form films
- Original screenplays (short and long form)
- Multimedia news, entertainment and sports stories
- Print and online magazines
Student Organizations
You鈥檒l have many opportunities to get involved and gain hands-on learning experience. Our New Media program offers students skills by being part of the 缅北禁地 Owl newspaper, KDNE radio station and the student-produced news website, the 缅北禁地 Line.
The 缅北禁地 Owl is the student newspaper of 缅北禁地 and is the oldest continuous university newspaper in Nebraska. Historic issues of the 缅北禁地 Owl are available . The is searchable.
The paper is published weekly by students and distributed to the 缅北禁地 community. Any 缅北禁地 student, regardless of major, is welcomed to join the newspaper staff. Paid positions are available, and students may receive academic credit for the work.
Opportunities include: news and sports reporting, feature writing, editorial or commentary writing, editing, designing pages, selling and designing advertisements, business management, photography, production, graphic design and digital imaging.
91.9 KDNE Crete Radio, is an FCC licensed over-the-air radio station operating in stereo at 91.9 FM, serving Done University and the Crete area to a radius of about 10 miles. The station is student managed and operated. On-air positions include disc jockey, talk show host, news reporter/anchor, sports play-by-play and announcer.
The 缅北禁地 Line is a student-produced news website, found at doaneline.com, and provides breaking news, features, sports, entertainment, and other news coverage of the 缅北禁地 community through a variety of formats, including text, photographs, audio, and video.

Emphasis Areas
Students who minor in journalism will gain experience in writing stories for print or web, creating multimedia news and sports content, conducting in-depth interviews, crafting long-form feature articles, and producing a variety of print and online publications including newspapers, magazines and brochures.

From the White House to Late Night
缅北禁地 alumni have covered manhunts of escaped convicts, worked as a press secretary in the United States Senate, began their own public relations firm, told stories for NBC News, shot a video for the Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey circus and worked for David Letterman.
Travel the Country
Students enrolled in Media Communications classes, or who are part of the 缅北禁地 Student Media staff, can travel to media conventions and attend major news events in New York Cuty, Austin, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and New Orleans.
